With the MLB CBA coming to in end in the next month, their are going to be some major changes coming to baseball.  First baseball will be expanding to 10 playoff teams, adding a second wild card team to each league and a new wild card round to the playoffs.  All the details have yet to be worked out, like whether it will be a one game play in or it will be a best of five. It is uncertain when this change will go into effect but it will be either 2012 or 2013.

The other change that will officially be happening is that the Houston Astros, who were just sold, will be moving to the American League in 2013.  This will make it so that their will be 15 teams in each league and to accommodate that fact, interleague play will be expanded and will be played from April to September.  The Astros will be moving from the NL Central to the AL West.  They are the first team to switch leagues since the Milwaukee Brewers switched at the end of the 1997 season.
